DAILY ITINERARY

DAY 1   FRIDAY 10/2 – TRAVEL OVERNIGHT

Late afternoon/evening flight into Glasgow, Scotland

DAY 2   SATURDAY 10/3 – ARRIVAL INTO GLASGOW

Welcome to Scotland.  On arrival at Glasgow airport, gather your bags and board the bus for a panoramic tour of Glasgow.  You cannot check into the hotel until afternoon.  Lunch stop on your own. Hope to be able to include a visit to Pollock Park and the Burrell Collection in the historic home there.  Afternoon check-in at hotel.  Dinner at your choice of a local restaurant.  Good night’s sleep.

DAY 3   SUNDAY 10/4 – GLASGOW TO FORT WILLIAM

Enjoy your fist full Scottish breakfast before boarding the motorcoach to head west.  Travel along beautiful Loch Lomond on the way to Doune Castle for a visit.  Lunch at the Glencoe Visitors Center on your own as we hear about the massacre of Clan McDonald members by Government Troops in 1692.  Enjoy the beautiful scenery as you travel on to Ft William.  (See the fort where Jamie and his handful of mates rescued Claire from Black Jack Randall’s clutches in Outlander)  Overnight in Ft William.  Dinner at the hotel included.

DAY 4   MONDAY 10/5 – FT WILLIAM TO INVERNESS

Enjoy another delicious Scottish Breakfast.  Love that fried bread!  Travel through the Great Glen.  On arrival in Inverness, visit the ruins of Urquhart Castle on the banks of Loch Ness.  Wonderful picture spot!  Afterwards enjoy a cruise on Loch Ness as you try to spot Nessie.  See the Glenfinnan Monument at the head of Loch Shiel.  Continue to the Fraser Museum and the Wardlaw Monument.  Overnight in Inverness.  Dinner on your own.  Lots of places to choose from.  Also good shopping in the Arcades.

DAY 5   TUESDAY 10/6 – THE HIGHLANDS

Another Scottish breakfast.  Are you brave enough to try the black pudding?!!  Afterwards, a visit to the Culloden Battlefield.  The new visitors center opened in 2008, providing new insights on the battle.  Your guide will also take you on a personal tour of the field including a stop at the Clan Fraser Stone, marking the graves of those clansmen.  As you travel across the beautiful Black Isle you will hear stories of how the Highlanders fared in the aftermath of Culloden.  Very sad story!

Next call is a visit to the Storehouse of Foulis, a farm shop dating from the 1740s.  However, their cuisine is the very best of the 21st century.  Try a cloudy dumpling if they offer them.  Then on for a visit to Clava Cairns, the pre-historic site, the inspiration for Craigh na Dun.  (See the Split Stone through which Claire Randall might have tumbled into 1743)  Our last stop of the day is the Dallas Dhu Historic Distillery for a drop of the Water of Scotland.  A nap on the motorcoach might be needed afterwards.  Back in Inverness for dinner on your own  and then your evening with a highlander who will talk about the dress and weapons used at Culloden.

DAY 6   WEDNESDAY 10/7 – INVERNESS TO EDINBURGH

Scottish breakfast to give you fortitude.  Depart Inverness for Edinburgh.  No Outlander day would be complete without a visit to Lallybroch where we have tea at the Beauly Priory.  Short walk with your guide around the tranquil ruins of Beauly Priory. (another site where Claire found herself)  Brief time in Beauly itself to look at some of the attractive shops or just take a stroll.  Visit to Stirling Castle and learn about William Wallace.  Loch Garve, immortalized in Outlander as the home of the water kelpie.  Hear the legends of the Water Horse of Loch Garve.   If time permits, walk to the Falls of Rogie.  Travel through the lovely spa village of Strathpferrer and later over the Forth of Fife bridge into Edinburgh.

DAY 7   THURSDAY 10/8 – SIGHTSEEING IN EDINBURGH

Enjoy your last Scottish breakfast before you begin your panoramic tour of Edinburgh including a visit to the Castle and the Palace of Holyrood where Claire visited.  Your afternoon is free for you to wander around this lovely city.  Separate list of possible visits to museums.  Dinner and Scottish entertainment included  that evening at Prestonfield House.  You might want to dress up or wear your kilt.  You must try the Haggis!  Good night’s sleep before your morning departure on Friday.

DAY 8   FRIDAY 10/9 – FAREWELL TO SCOTLAND AND THE OUTLANDER TOUR

Time to say goodbye and fly home. However, an additional night in Edinburgh can be added on.  We would need to know before we book your flights.
